Susan Spero
Susan Spero has been an organizational consultant for nearly four decades. She founded Spero & Company Consultants, LLC, on April Fool’s Day, 1987, which says a lot about her sense of humor.
Now, she has summarized her years of experience with a wide range of people and organizations into engaging keynotes, coaching, and facilitation services, and into a clear and accessible guide, Harmony at Work. Her work will help you create stronger, more productive relationships at work, regardless of your current role or tenure.
What Business Leaders Are Saying
“[Susan's] Harmony at Work will improve working relationships between managers and workers at every level. Susan Spero has risen above bland business jargon to create a unique, comprehensive guide.”
KEN BLANCHARD
Coauthor of The New One Minute Manager® and
Servant Leadership in Action
“Susan Spero is the real deal! I have benefitted from her wisdom, humor, and straightforward approach for more than 20 years. She initially worked with me as my executive coach and helped me navigate some serious workplace personality conflicts. She has gone on to coach me through leading a growing team and has provided strategic consulting and training for the entire staff.
Through Susan's instruction and expertise, I have become a stronger and smarter leader. She has helped me to thoroughly understand, appreciate, and leverage my strengths to achieve more effective communication and have stronger relationships with the teams I lead.”
DIANE CHRISTMAN
President and CEO, Syndeo Institute
“Susan is very skilled at asking the right questions, learning about her clients’ needs, planning a relevant program, and then delivering that program with clarity, energy, and humor. I’ve worked with her for over 15 years and always found her to be smart, helpful, and easy to work with. The resulting products of our work together are always useful and long-lasting.”
JIM GODDARD
Senior Associate, The Valtas Group
“I’ve worked with Susan Spero at two very different organizations over the last 25 years. Each time, working with Susan has been a real partnership: she carefully listens to your team’s goals as well as their interests and needs. All this is done with grace and good humor that creates excellent results for the leader, for the team, and for the organization.”
VICKI COWART
Former CEO, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains
“I have worked with Susan over a 12-year period while I was associated with two different organizations that had governing bodies. During my first work with Susan, I observed her ability to bring a fractured group together toward consensus. I saw the need to do this again with another board where Susan helped us achieve alignment. What I really like about working with Susan is that she takes the time to do her homework and develop a customized approach for each unique organization.”

Director, Transit Advisory Services—HATCH
more About Susan
Susan realized years ago that much of what impacts productivity and job satisfaction in the workplace ties directly to people’s ability to create and maintain healthy relationships. She actually enjoys helping people sort out the messy conflicts that they often generate with coworkers. She appreciates the opportunity to provide tools and safe environments in which they can learn, grow, and produce more harmony.
Her international company offers keynote speeches, strategic planning, team development, and executive coaching for corporations, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies that range in size from five to 5,000 employees. The company’s tagline is “continuous people improvement.”
Spero & Company’s clients have included engineering companies, library systems, law firms, transportation districts, hospitals, housing authorities, manufacturing companies, universities, professional associations, energy and telecom companies, aerospace companies, home builders, public relations firms, regional and national nonprofits, religious organizations, and governmental agencies.
Because music has played a major role in Susan’s life, it became the metaphor for her book, Harmony at Work. She learned to play piano and guitar as a child and has loved singing in choirs and musical theater. Like most kids, she hated practicing. She led a small community choir for over thirty years. That experience helped her see the similarities between choir members learning to sing in tune with each other and team members finding ways to work harmoniously together in their careers.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in education at the University of Michigan and completed a master’s degree in psychology and counseling at the University of Northern Colorado. Prior to founding Spero & Company, she worked as an elementary school teacher and clinical psychologist.
She is certified in the use of many assessments, including the Myers-Briggs Type Inventory, the Kolbe Indexes, Genos Emotional Intelligence tools, and the Graham-Sloan Resilience Index. She is licensed to facilitate many programs, including Executive Team Alignment, Appreciative Inquiry, and Interaction Associates’ Facilitative Leadership and Essential Facilitation.
She is a member of the Organization Development Network. Always an active volunteer, she has trained facilitators and chaired the Personnel and Search committees for a local nonprofit. She was a board member of the Denver Child Care Consortium. She has coordinated projects for her homeowners’ association, the 10 Greatest Gifts Project, Denver area school systems, and the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce.
Susan grew up outside of Chicago and has lived with her husband, three boys, and a succession of
cats in Denver, Colorado, since 1973. She speaks Spanish, French, and, on a good day, English. In addition to music, she loves travel, exercise, photography, dark chocolate, and any opportunity to laugh.
